Job Description

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

As a Structural Engineering Professional, you will be an integral member of the design team, counted on to perform a significant portion of Structural analysis and design for our projects. You will need strong communication and interpersonal skills as you work closely with your Structural Lead, other Structural Engineers and Designers, and other disciplines. As part of the team, you will help develop design concepts, complete the analysis and design, and work with our Designers to get the structural requirements communicated on paper and in the model. It is expected that you have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Structural Engineering, knowledge of multiple subject areas, experience with relevant building codes including seismic provisions, understand how Structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. You will be given as much responsibility as you are willing to take, and your opportunities for career growth will be limited only by your own motivation, capabilities, and attitude

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently performs core structural engineering analysis and design tasks, applying sound engineering judgment in selecting and adapting methods, codes, and criteria (including seismic provisions) with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills by evaluating conditions, identifying gaps, and proactively seeking guidance when needed to ensure accurate and reliable outcomes.
  • Maintains high standards of quality control by thoroughly checking own work and reviewing/calculating checks for others, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Takes full ownership of assigned scope—planning workload, meeting schedule and budget targets, and delivering quality outputs while defining scope and estimating effort effectively.
  • Proactively manages ambiguity by clarifying requirements, identifying scope changes, and escalating issues appropriately while collaborating with project leads and team members.
  • Exercises sound decision-making by identifying risks, problems, and opportunities early, and selecting practical, cost-effective actions aligned with project and client objectives.

Here's what you'll need

  • Holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, ideally with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Certified as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Brings a minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering across diverse project types.
  • Experienced in the design and analysis of steel and concrete structures, with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Familiar with U.S. building codes, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC.
  • Background in semiconductor or general industrial facility projects is valued.
  • Proficient in tools such as STAAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and diverse perspectives.
