JOB OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with day-to-day company Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), Payroll, and general ledger activities. The Staff Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external customers regularly. A fantastic communicator with strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills is essential.
JOB ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
What You'll Do
- Assist with daily banking requirements.
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Prepare standard and specialized financial analysis and reports (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, monthly closing reports) and changes in financial positions/budget variance analysis, according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist with company sales tax filings, and annual audit preparations. Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
- Assess internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions while ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local requirements.
- Assist company with integrating the accounting functions of new acquisitions.
- Improve and implement financial controls, ensuring accurate control and accounting of assets and accounts.
- Assist auditors in gathering and providing information and documents needed for inquiries.
- Monitor, analyze, and contribute to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures to enhance the efficiency of the department.
- Perform other accounting duties and support junior staff as required or assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
What Skills & Experience You'll Need
- A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
- 5+ years of general Accounting experience.
- Experience and knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Experience in A/R, and A/P processing.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of integrity.
- Experience with NetSuite is required and Sage is a plus
- Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to break down complex problems into manageable parts and analyze them systematically with a keen eye for detail
