PROGRAM BACKGROUND
International Medical Corps IMC) is a global, humanitarian, non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, non-political, non-sectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
In the Philippines, IMC has supported communities affected by natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruption and floods. Its interventions have included emergency medical care, nutrition in emergency, distribution of hygiene kits and non-food items, and rehabilitation of damaged health facilities. IMC's work emphasizes rapid response, resilience building, and close collaboration with local government units (LGUs) to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
The Medical Doctor (Primary Care Physician) is a roster position for national staff only. Candidates applying to this position are indicating that they are interested in being considered for International Medical Corps standby roster for emergency response in the Philippines and be ready for deployment within 48 hours. Roster members will be contacted only when there is an emergency-response need for which the responder is qualified. This position will not be compensated unless responders are deployed to an emergency response.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Medical Doctor (Primary Care Physician) plays a vital role in advancing International Medical Corps mission in the country by ensuring access to quality health services for vulnerable populations during disaster events. Through leadership of medical teams, coordination with local health units, and delivery of comprehensive clinical care, the position strengthens community health systems and supports resilience. The Medical Doctor must be prepared to be deployed within 48 hours following the onset of typhoons or other emergencies, ensuring rapid response and continuity of care during crises. By adhering to national policies, international humanitarian standards, and IMC's Code of Conduct, the Medical Doctor contributes to safeguarding lives, promoting well-being, and addressing urgent health needs in identified project sites.
