POSITION SUMMARY:

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for leading civil design and engineering activities for substations, solar farms, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role requires strong technical expertise in site development, underground works, drainage, and stormwater management, as well as the ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. The Civil Engineer will play a key role in ensuring compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications, while supporting both design and construction phases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Civil Design Accuracy & Quality

  • Plans and designs site grading, drainage, access roads, and stormwater management systems.
  • Ensures underground civil works are properly coordinated with electrical, structural, and piping disciplines for routing, clearances, and cover depths.
  • Designs underground utility networks integrating survey data, topographic information, and geotechnical findings.
  • Less than 5% of submitted underground design deliverables require material rework due to avoidable coordination or design errors.
  • Analyzes topography, geotechnical data, and hydrology to optimize site layouts and minimize earthwork volumes.

Geotechnical & Hydrological Interpretation

  • Demonstrates ability to interpret geotechnical investigation reports and apply soil stability and site preparation requirements to civil design.
  • Performs and/or reviews hydrology and hydraulic studies to support drainage and stormwater design.

Engineering Software & Tools

  • Demonstrates proficient use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for civil design deliverable production.
  • Competent use of GIS tools and topographic data for site assessment and layout optimization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite for engineering documentation and reporting.

Deliverable Preparation & Documentation

  • Prepares, checks, and approves (as required) civil deliverables including: site grading plans, drainage design drawings, underground works layout plans, road and access design, stormwater management plans, earthwork calculations, and civil specifications.
  • Civil reports, drawings, and calculations are clear, structured, and aligned with project requirements.
  • Documentation requires minimal revision from Team Lead or Engineering Manager.
  • All deliverables filed and indexed correctly to ensure traceability and audit readiness.

Timely Delivery of Engineering Outputs

  • At least 90% of assigned deliverables submitted on or before scheduled deadlines.
  • Delays escalated proactively before deadline where schedule risks are identified.
  • Engineering tasks completed within agreed project timeframes and man-hour budgets.

Design Review & Coordination

  • Actively participates in internal and external design reviews.
  • Addresses review comments within agreed turnaround times.
  • Coordinates effectively with piping, mechanical, electrical, structural, and process disciplines to ensure integrated civil design solutions.
  • Represents the civil engineering discipline competently in client meetings, design reviews, and regulatory discussions.

Technical Problem-Solving

  • Identifies engineering issues and proposes practical, technically sound solutions consistent with project constraints and applicable standards.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop design standards, standard details, and software templates applicable to underground works and site civil design.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and licensed Civil Engineer.
  • Minimum 5 years of civil design experience with proven exposure to substations, solar farms, and/or BESS projects.
  • Strong knowledge of grading, drainage, underground works, earthwork balancing, and stormwater management.
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical reports and apply soil stability and site preparation requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Familiarity with civil engineering codes, drainage and stormwater regulations, and utility requirements for substations and renewable energy facilities.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and clients.
