About the Role

We are looking for a results-driven Category Buyer to manage product categories within our supermarket operations. This role is responsible for selecting the right product mix, maintaining optimal stock levels, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring competitive pricing to maximize sales and profitability while meeting customer needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned supermarket categories (e.g., Fresh, Grocery, Frozen, Household, Personal Care)
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with local and international suppliers
  • Develop category plans including assortment, pricing, promotions, and shelf strategy
  • Ensure consistent product availability while minimizing stockouts and overstocking
  • Analyze sales performance, margins, shrinkage, and inventory turnover
  • Monitor market trends, competitor pricing, and customer buying behavior
  • Coordinate with Merchandising, Store Operations, and Supply Chain teams for execution
  • Manage promotions, discounts, and seasonal product planning (e.g., peak holiday demand)
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality standards, and company policies
  • Build strong supplier partnerships and monitor vendor performance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, Supply Chain, or related field
  • At least 2–4 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or category management (supermarket experience preferred)
  • Strong negotiation skills and supplier management experience
  • Solid understanding of inventory management and demand forecasting
  • Highly analytical with proficiency in Excel and retail systems
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience handling perishable goods (Fresh/Produce/Meat/Seafood)
  • Knowledge of retail KPIs (sell-through, GMROI, shrinkage, basket size, etc.)
  • Familiarity with ERP or retail merchandising systems
