Job Summary:
The Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Lhoopa Inc. and its affiliates comply with al local, national, and regulatory tax requirements. This role includes preparing, reviewing, and filing timely tax returns (VAT, EWT, Income Tax, etc.), ensuring proper documentation and reconciliation of tax-related accounts, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and compliance requirements from BIR, SEC, and other government agencies. The position will also support internal and external audits and assist in implementing process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Job Responsibilities:
1. Tax Compliance and Reporting
a. Prepare and file al recurring tax returns (Monthly, Quarterly, Annualy) including VAT, EWT, income tax, withholding tax on compensation, and other applicable taxes within prescribed deadlines.
b. Ensure accurate computation of taxes due, timely payment, and proper documentation of al tax transactions.
c. Maintain a detailed and organized schedule of tax filings, remittances, and certifications for internal reference and audit purposes.
d. Review and reconcile tax-related accounts in the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness.
2. Regulatory and Statutory Compliance
a. Ensure ful compliance with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Local Government Units (LGU), and other regulatory agencies.
b. Handle applications and renewals for permits, licenses, and registrations (e.g., Mayor's Permit, BIR Annual Registration, SEC filings).
c. Prepare and maintain compliance documentation, supporting schedules, and working papers for external audits and inspections.
d. Coordinate with external auditors, consultants, and government representatives as needed.
3. Advisory and Risk Management
a. Monitor updates on tax laws, rules, and regulations, and assess their impact on the company's operations.
b. Provide tax-related advice to management and other departments to ensure transactions are structured in a tax-efficient and compliant manner.
c. Assist in developing and updating company policies and procedures related to taxation and compliance.
4. Process Improvement
a. Support initiatives to automate and streamline tax and compliance processes.
b. Recommend system enhancements and documentation practices that improve tax accuracy and audit readiness.
c. Lead the transition from paper-based to paperless processes through BIR Computerized Accounting System (CAS) accreditation or electronic registration and reporting. d. Assist in ensuring that compliance calendars, reporting tools, and process manuals are properly implemented and updated.
Requirements:
BS Accountancy graduate; CPA required
At least 5+ years of experience as Tax Specialist or General Accounting Specialist; preferably in the real estate industry
Strong knowledge of the accounting standards (PFRS), Philippine taxation, tax filings and other statutory compliance.
Experience working directly with external auditors on financial audits
Knowledgeable in QuickBooks or other accounting software.
Advanced experience with MS Office, particularly with MS Excel.
Strong analytical, communication and team management skills.
