Accountant I – Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

Job Summary

The Accountant I is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting through account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, journal entries, and month-end closing activities. This role ensures the accuracy of financial data by reviewing account balances, preparing financial workpapers, and maintaining proper accounting records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file monthly General Excise Tax (GET) returns.
  • Prepare and update Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and reports to support financial statements and project performance reviews.
  • Record and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll liabilities, taxes, and related transactions.
  • Perform bank, credit card, line of credit, and note payable reconciliations.
  • Reconcile deposits, prepaid expenses, inventory, fixed assets, depreciation, and investment accounts.
  • Review and reconcile cost in excess of billings and billings in excess of cost accounts.
  • Maintain accurate union liability records and related reconciliations.
  • Perform month-end closing procedures and ensure balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled.
  • Prepare and review financial packets for accuracy and completeness.

Screening Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of accounting experience, including AP/AR, reconciliations, payroll accounting, and financial statement preparation.
  • Stable employment history.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, IF formulas, SUM, and AVERAGE functions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting processes.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in account reconciliations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with U.S.-based clients.
  • Reliable internet connection with a backup plan for remote work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours (1–2 hours/day) during peak seasons.
