Shift Accounting is a fully digital accounting firm supporting medical and dental practices across Canada since 2014. We integrate financial operations into cloud-based systems to give clinics real-time financial clarity and data-driven insights. Our team supports clients with payroll, bookkeeping, AP, doctor's pay, and Virtual CFO servicesproviding the structure and expertise clinics need to scale sustainably.

THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE CURRENTLY LIVING IN PH AND WILLING TO WORK UNDER CANADIAN HOURS (8AM-5PM MST)

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant who not only excels technically but also has the leadership mindset to grow into a supervisor in the near future.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, client-facing work, and mentoring junior team members while contributing to continuous process improvement.

You will manage complex client files, ensure high-quality monthly and year-end reporting, support client communication, and help strengthen our internal delivery standards.

What You'll Do

Monthly & Year-End Financial Reporting

  • Lead full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting for multiple client files.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and payment platform transactions.
  • Prepare accurate monthly P&Ls, balance sheets, and financial packages.
  • Conduct thorough year-end reviews, prepare working papers, and coordinate with tax accountants.

Client Relationship & Advisory

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clinics.
  • Provide timely responses and guidance on financial inquiries, forecasts, and reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with Account Managers, Production Supervisors, and tax teams.

Quality Control & Process Excellence

  • Review junior accountants work as part of our cross-training and peer-review system.
  • Identify patterns, errors, or improvement opportunities in bookkeeping workflows.
  • Support documentation of new procedures and contribute to standardization efforts.

Leadership Growth Path

  • Mentor and support junior accountants during onboarding and file transitions.
  • Participate in cross-team initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and data accuracy.
  • Develop leadership competencies to eventually oversee a small group of accountants.

What We're Looking For

Technical Background

  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience (preferably in high-volume or multi-client environments).
  • Strong proficiency in bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Hubdoc, and cloud accounting tools (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Solid understanding of month-end and year-end processes.

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Ability to take full ownership of client files with minimal supervision.
  • A proactive communicator who provides clarity and consistency.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience mentoring peers or supporting juniors is a plus.
  • Adaptability and maturity to grow into a Supervisor role.

Other Requirements

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).
  • Availability to work MondayFriday, full-time, during Canadian business hours.
