DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ENGINEERING
- Perform grid connection studies and power system analysis using PSCAD, PSSE and DigSILENT PowerFactory for the proposed generator system such as solar farms, wind farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- Capability to capture and put into a report format the graphical results of the Generator Performance Standards studies and write a narrative of the results observed.
- Perform harmonic assessment using software modelling of the proposed renewable energy resources such as solar farms, wind farms and battery energy storage system (BESS).
- Perform a Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) model using OEM provided PSCAD, PSSE model.
- Undertake grid connection process for renewable energy projects, including conducting feasibility studies, securing grid access agreements, and coordinating grid connection design and implementation.
- Carry out power system analysis during and post-connection phases.
- Undertake engineering, technical analysis and report generation.
- Devise designs compliant with client and industry standards and specifications.
- Preparation of load flow modelling based of the Australian power system and determine fault levels at a node.
- Conduct risk assessment and mitigation involving grid connections.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, consultants and manufacturers to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
TECHNICAL
- Proficiency in power system modelling tools ( PSCAD, PSSE, DigSILENT PowerFactory and related power systems software).
- Power System experience with TNSP or DNSP.
- Experience with generator connection process in Australia.
- Strong working knowledge of DigSILENT PowerFactory Harmonics module.
- Understanding of inverter PSCAD and PSSE model (advantageous if experience with SMA and Power Electronic brand inverter models).
- Ability to aggregate the OEM model into the project specific site model.
- Strong ability to convert simulation output into report ready graphs and graphics as required.
- Capability to learn the NER rules clause if not currently knowledgeable.
- Understanding of SMIB model and how to construct in PSCAD and PSSE.
- Interpret simulation results.
- Suggest solutions to problems encountered during simulation.
- Attend meetings with TNSP and AEMO and understand requests and challenges proposed by TNSP and AEMO.
- Ability to tune OEM equipment settings to meet power system requirements and allow stable operation to meet NER clauses.
- Understand computer filing techniques and quality assurance to ensure models are filed appropriately and results are able to be repeated.
- Experience in scripting Python and/or Gridmo software is an advantage.
- Experience with AEMO regulations and Australian Standards.
- Experience in substation design is an advantage.
- ISO900/ QA processes and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent. Chartered / Professional Engineer (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years experience with utility grid connections studies for renewable energy projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Diligent and resourceful.
- Good organizational capability to ensure simulation results are organized and indexed to allow for future cross referencing.
- Good quality assurance capability to ensure model consistency and result repeatability.
- Ability to interact with the Australian client's personnel remotely to understand problem statements and solutions.
- Ability to learn complex regulation clauses and interpret into result outcomes.
