About the role
We are seeking a Payroll & Payroll Accounting Specialist to support accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a global workforce. This role sits within the Finance team and partners closely with People, Accounting, and external vendors. You will own payroll processing, payroll accounting, reconciliations, audits, and reporting, while supporting select employee lifecycle activities through close collaboration with the People team. This role requires strong payroll expertise, an accounting mindset, advanced Excel skills, and comfort operating in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do
Payroll Processing and Administration
Own end-to-end payroll processing for US employees
Ensure payroll accuracy across earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, equity, commissions, and one-time payments
Coordinate payroll calendars, cutoffs, off-cycle runs, and year-end activities
Partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve payroll issues and employee inquiries
Payroll Accounting and Reconciliations
Prepare and review payroll journal entries in accordance with US GAAP
Perform payroll balance sheet and expense reconciliations each pay period and month-end
Support accruals, true-ups, and payroll-related estimates
Maintain payroll documentation to support audits and internal controls
Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements
Support payroll audits, benefits audits, and external financial audits
Assist with W-2, 1099, and other year-end payroll filings
Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting schedules
Systems and Data Management
Administer payroll and HRIS systems, with a focus on data integrity and controls
Partner on system testing, implementations, and process improvements
Maintain accurate employee data tied to payroll, compensation, and benefits
Cross-Functional People Support
Partner with the People team on onboarding, offboarding, and employee changes impacting payroll
Support benefits and leave programs as they relate to payroll processing and deductions
Assist with headcount reporting, budgeting support, and workforce analytics
Ad Hoc Analysis and Projects
Build payroll reports and models using advanced Excel
Support special projects related to payroll transformation, system upgrades, and process standardization

Required Education, Experience, and Skills
3 to 5+ years of experience in payroll processing and payroll accounting
Strong understanding of US payroll, taxes, and wage compliance
Hands-on experience preparing payroll journal entries and reconciliations
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, and complex calculations
Experience working with payroll systems and HRIS platforms, Rippling preferred
Experience supporting audits and maintaining payroll controls
Ability to analyze payroll data and explain variances clearly
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience supporting multi-state and international payroll
Prior experience in a high-growth or startup environment
Familiarity with benefits, equity, and commission payroll treatment
Shift: Night Shift (PST Time)
