Role Summary

The Legato team is a specialized portfolio accounting function that focuses on the ingestion, reconciliation, and validation of broker data to support accurate and timely portfolio accounting and NAV production.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Legato, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Legato team and leading a team of Portfolio Accountants. The focus of the role is on ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely execution of broker data reconciliation and portfolio accounting support activities, while supporting the development, performance, and engagement of the team.

This role provides operational leadership, monitors workloads and deliverables, validates outputs, and identifies execution issues or risks requiring escalation. Collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, the Manager reinforces best practices, supports a stable operating environment, and ensures Legato outputs effectively support downstream Portfolio Accounting teams and overall NAV delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Legato team for assigned portfolios, with accountability for quality, timeliness, and consistency of deliverables.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Portfolio Accountants across varying experience levels, providing regular feedback, supporting skill development, and fostering engagement and accountability.
  • Review daily and month-end portfolio accounting deliverables prepared by the team to validate accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established standards and procedures.
  • Monitor workloads, priorities, and deadlines, reallocating work as needed to ensure coverage and timely completion of deliverables.
  • Identify execution issues, risks, or control gaps, addressing them where appropriate and escalating matters to senior leadership as required.
  • Support downstream NAV teams by ensuring Legato team portfolio outputs are accurate, well supported, and delivered in line with required timelines.
  • Ensure the team is informed of and effectively adopts updates and procedural changes, providing guidance, training, and reinforcement to embed changes into operations.
  • Reinforce adherence to established processes, controls, and best practices, contributing to a stable and well-controlled operating environment.
  • Critically evaluate existing processes, controls, and workflows to identify inefficiencies or gaps, and proactively raise improvement ideas that lead to practical enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related analytically focused field (such as Business, Mathematics, Computer Science), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the fund administration industry, including experience supporting investment funds or portfolios.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Supervisory or Managerial level role, with demonstrated people leadership capability, including coaching, performance feedback, and supporting the development of early-career professionals.
  • Strong operational judgment, with the ability to manage priorities, identify execution risks or control gaps, and escalate matters appropriately.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to provide direction, feedback, and guidance to team members and to communicate expectations clearly.
  • Proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement, including identifying inefficiencies, raising issues, and contributing ideas to improve processes and outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with general ledger and investment accounting systems, with preferred familiarity in FIS VPM (Virtus Performance Management), SS&C Advent Geneva, or comparable enterprise accounting platforms.
  • Client-facing experience or close collaboration with client service teams, supporting communication, issue resolution, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Professional accounting or finance designation, such as CPA or CFA, or active progress toward a recognized credential.
  • Advanced capability in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, financial data consolidation, and building structured reconciliation and variance analysis schedules.
  • Exposure to portfolios with multiple financial instrument types, supporting review of portfolio accounting or reconciliation outputs
