The business currently has footprint in Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, and Hong Kong with Business Development, Asset Management and Operations teams spread across the region.
We are looking for a high-caliber Legal Counsel to join our In-House Legal & Compliance team in our BGC office. This is a pivotal role where you will act as the legal backbone for our Philippines Asset Servicing division, managing diverse portfolios ranging from Non-Performing Loans (NPL) to Real Estate Owned (REO) assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Asset Servicing Leadership: Lead all legal strategies for the Special Asset Management team, ensuring robust protection and recovery for our NPL and REO portfolios.
- Borrower Relations & Litigation: Oversee demand strategies and communication for delinquent accounts. You will manage a high-performing network of external counsels to ensure litigation and recovery efforts are executed with maximum efficacy.
- Real Estate & Construction: Provide expert legal advisory to the Real Estate Development team on construction matters, zoning, and necessary permits for our REO holdings.
- Corporate & Regulatory Compliance: In tandem with our in-house legal assistants and external partners, ensure the firm remains beyond reproach regarding local regulatory requirements.
- Strategic Support: Assist the C.E.O, General Counsel and Philippines Legal team on regional matters on an ad hoc basis.
Requirements
- Professional Qualification: Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with a valid Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) license.
- Experience: 5+ years of post-bar experience, ideally with a background in litigation, banking, or real estate law.
- Asset Management Savvy: Prior experience in handling NPL/REO portfolios is highly advantageous.
- Strategic Thinking: A proactive, detail-oriented problem solver who can navigate complex legal challenges and prioritize high-stakes tasks with total discretion.
- Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive borrower communications with professional firmness. English and Tagalog professional proficiency.
- Location: Willingness to work on-site at our office in BGC, Taguig.
