About This Role. . .
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Canadian Tax Accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for professionals with solid public accounting experience and strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax and assurance standards. The successful candidate will work during night-shift hours and support a wide range of engagements, including assurance files, compilations, and tax returns for small businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare and review Canadian corporate, personal, and trust tax returns in accordance with applicable federal and provincial tax regulations.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance in all tax filings and related financial documentation.
- Support year-end tax planning and assist in identifying tax-saving opportunities for clients.
Assurance & Compilation Engagements
- Complete small business assurance files from planning through preparation and finalization, including the related tax returns.
- Conduct detailed financial statement analysis, risk assessments, and documentation in compliance with firm standards.
- Prepare compilation (Notice to Reader) engagements with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Apply Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) for Ontario and Canada where required.
Client Management & Communication
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients by providing exceptional service, timely updates, and professional guidance.
- Address client inquiries related to tax filings, financial statements, and accounting processes.
- Collaborate with internal team members to ensure seamless execution of client engagements.
General Accounting Support
- Review financial information submitted by clients, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with bookkeeping tasks and full-cycle accounting processes when required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and workflow efficiency.
Qualifications / Skills
- CPA/CA designation preferred; however, candidates with relevant and equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in public accounting, preferably in a Canadian setting.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working on assurance files, particularly completing small business assurance engagements from planning to completion, including preparation of the tax return.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) within Ontario and Canada
- OR minimum of 3 years of experience completing compilation files without ASPE experience.
- Full-cycle bookkeeping experience is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to work during night-shift hours.
