Financial Controller

Connext is looking for a Finance Controller to lead client engagements, manage a team of senior staff accountants, and oversee accounting operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close, and compliance, while providing strategic financial insights to business owners and executives. The ideal candidate has strong general ledger experience, advanced GAAP knowledge, and proven skills in financial reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary accounting contact for 2–5 client engagements, managing client relationships.
• Lead preparation and review of monthly reporting packages and financial statements; analyze results and present findings to business owners or executives.
• Direct and mentor Senior Staff Accountants in journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close, and supporting schedules.
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all accounting deliverables.
• Provide coaching, feedback, and technical guidance to the accounting team.
• Lead onboarding of new clients and accounting cleanup projects.
• Implement scalable accounting processes and internal controls; ensure compliance with GAAP and client policies.
• Identify opportunities for process automation and workflow improvements.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years managing or reviewing accounting staff and processes.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online and ERP/accounting systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Must have a stable employment history.
• Demonstrated experience in month-end close and financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and account reconciliations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation
• Experience in Public Accounting or Client Accounting Services (CAS)
• Experience managing multi-entity, multi-location, or high-growth client teams
• Familiarity with Bill.com, Ramp, Gusto, Stripe, or other cloud-based accounting platforms
• Experience with private equity-backed, venture-backed, or founder-led companies
