Job Overview: The External Communications and Government Affairs Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization's engagement strategy. This position is responsible for managing institutional relations, public policy advocacy and corporate communications. The role ensures strategic coherence across the corporate affairs department and provides high-level guidance to local internal teams and external stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Public Relations - Development and implementation of PR plans and campaigns needed by the company, its business units, and subsidiaries.
- Stakeholder Relations - Support media relations initiatives and other stakeholder relations requirements of the company.
- Corporate Communications - Development of needed communications for different stakeholders: executive communications, client communications, media statements, among others.
- Crisis Communications - Development of needed crisis communication materials to help manage and handle any negative publicity against the company and its subsidiaries.
- Directly oversee engagement with government agencies, regulatory authorities, and principal stakeholders to advocate for beneficial policy results.
- Coordinate appropriate representation of the company in industry associations, public forums, and stakeholder consultations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. MBA and other relevant certification is preferred but not required.
- Minimum 10 years of proven/acquired public affairs experience
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing senior-level teams, including setting strategic direction, coaching, and performance management
- Proven external stakeholder engagement track record to advance public policy positions with a range of diverse stakeholders including governments, NGOs, international organizations and investors
- Experience in corporate communications, including media relations, executive messaging, and internal communications strategy.
- Track record in developing and delivering a thought leadership strategy across a range of external platforms and channels
- Familiar with cross-cultural issues and working in complex matrix organizations.
- Takes an entrepreneurial approach; is agile, pragmatic, proactive, adaptable, and skilled at managing change.
- Familiarity with sustainability, environmental policy, or corporate responsibility is a plus.
