Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP), a leading renewable energy company in the Philippines specializing in high-quality and cost-effective solar energy and energy efficiency solutions, is seeking a proactive and results-oriented Engineering Manager to join our growing commercial team.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of construction-ready designs for rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale solar PV projects. In this role, they will lead and mentor the PV Design Engineering team, ensuring technical excellence, design efficiency, and consistency across all projects. The Engineering Manager also plays a key role in fostering team development and driving effective cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire project lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of PV Design Engineers, supporting professional growth and technical excellence.
- Establish design standards, workflows, and best practices to ensure consistent and high-quality project deliverables.
- Manage team workload, assign projects, and monitor performance to meet deadlines and project milestones.
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new design engineers as the team grows.
Project Oversight & Technical Support:
- Oversee the preparation of engineering deliverables for rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale solar projects.
- Review and validate system designs, including site plans, PV layouts, electrical diagrams, grounding systems, and BOMs, ensuring alignment with industry standards and client requirements.
- Guide the team in conducting design reviews and implementing quality control measures across all stages of design.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as the key liaison between engineering, sales, procurement, and operations teams to ensure design feasibility, efficiency, and constructability.
- Provide engineering input during project planning and proposal phases, supporting Sales Consultants with system layout validation and design optimization.
- Communicate engineering constraints and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and software utilization (e.g., AutoCAD, PVSyst).
- Stay updated with PV technology trends, PEC/IEC codes, and construction practices to evaluate new products and design strategies.
- Champion the adoption of automation tools or design accelerators to improve team productivity.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required); must hold a valid PRC license.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in PV system design, with at least 2 years in a leadership or engineering management role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage engineering teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- In-depth knowledge of solar PV systems, electrical design standards, and construction practices for rooftop, commercial, and utility-scale projects.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; familiarity with solar design software such as PVSyst or similar tools is an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience with power system studies, substation design, and grid interconnection requirements is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills in high-pressure environments.
- Eagerness to learn and adopt new technologies in a dynamic work setting.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
