Scope of Position
Entry level responsibility, as a design professional, for the production of innovative, appropriate, cost-effective designs, drawings and specifications in their discipline for assigned projects. Emerges to an independent resource and begins to coordinate work with other disciplines. Works to fulfill experience requirements for eligibility to take professional license exam.
Job Responsibilities
1. Conceptual Design
a. Establish Discipline basis of design for Design Manager to review.
2. Detailed Design
a. Analysis Ability
b. Performs dimensional, interference and basic design checks on the layouts and sketches of Licensed Professional and, as requested, on interdisciplinary drawing sets.
c. Performs analysis or calculations as assigned.
d. Designing for Safety incorporated into drawings.
e. Responsible for design compliance with Owner criteria.
3. Detailing
a. Applies discipline design and detailing fundamentals in developing designs and specifications under the supervision of and subject to final approval by the Lead Professional.
b. Assists Lead Professional with plotting/production/assembly of drawing packages and writing specifications.
c. Code compliance review with a design professional.
d. Maintains AE checklists for Design Manager to review.
e. Participates in coordination review sessions
f. Maintains orderly work files and prepares clear, well written memos/correspondence. When assigned, prepares presentation materials.
g. Coordinates and checks work carefully to minimize all deficiencies, errors and omissions.
h. Uses Haskell standards and procedures.
4. Construction Documents
a. Produces well-organized, finished design documents of good appearance, accuracy, clarity and correctness from layouts, sketches or written instructions.
5. Construction Support
a. Subject to final approval of Lead Professional, checks shop drawings and submittal data for conformance with contract documents.
b. Assists Lead Professional in field inspections, development of solutions to field problems, preparation of field orders, addenda and record drawings.
c. Shop drawings returned on schedule.
d. Responds to field/construction questions as directed
6. Planning, Scheduling and Profitability
a. Creates work plan for assigned tasks. Monitors and projects personal workload status, advising supervisor of difficulties in accomplishing schedules.
b. Meets scheduled key dates.
c. Discusses progress regularly with Licensed Professional of Record.
d. Advises Design Manager of changes.
e. Design to budget man-hours.
7. Project Management
a. Adhere to project strategy.
b. Documents meetings and telephone conversations in order to communicate to discipline leader.
8. Travel as required.
9. Other duties which may be assigned as needed.
