The Role: Data Governance Analyst

Establish and maintain practical data governance controls that improve ownership, definitions, quality and responsible data use. Work with business and technology teams to make priority data assets discoverable, understood and governed.

Responsibilities

• Data Ownership and Metadata:
• Maintain asset inventories, business glossaries, dictionaries and stewardship registers.
• Agree critical data elements, KPI definitions and sources of truth with business owners.

• Data Quality Management:
• Define quality rules and coordinate data profiling and monitoring.
• Track issues, root causes and remediation plans with accountable owners.

• Data Classification and Controls:
• Document lineage, classifications, access and retention requirements.
• Coordinate with Privacy and Information Security; retain business owner and DPO accountability.

• Standards and Governance:
• Develop governance standards, procedures and control checklists.
• Coordinate approvals, adoption and exception management.

• Project and Platform Support:
• Embed ownership, metadata and quality requirements in migration and platform projects.
• Coordinate governance checks and reconciliation criteria with delivery teams.

• Reporting and Stewardship:
• Prepare governance dashboards, council materials and audit evidence.
• Train stewards and track decisions, overdue actions and adoption against agreed baselines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business, Statistics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in data governance, data quality, data management or business/data analysis.
• Working knowledge of data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, classification and data quality management.
• Ability to use SQL and spreadsheet tools for basic profiling, validation and issue analysis.
• Strong documentation, facilitation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to turn business rules into measurable controls.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Microsoft Purview, Databricks Unity Catalog or comparable catalog and governance tools.
• Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK concepts, master/reference data and privacy-aware data handling.
• Experience with healthcare or insurance data, audit support, or governance implementation projects.
