Role Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Data Governance Analyst / Specialist to establish and maintain practical data governance controls that improve data ownership, quality, consistency, and responsible data usage. The role will work closely with business, technology, privacy, and security teams to ensure critical data assets are properly defined, documented, governed, and monitored.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain data asset inventories, business glossaries, data dictionaries, and data stewardship registers
- Work with business owners to define Critical Data Elements (CDEs), KPI definitions, data sources, and sources of truth
- Establish and maintain data quality rules and coordinate data profiling and monitoring activities
- Track data quality issues, identify root causes, and coordinate remediation plans with accountable owners
- Document data lineage, classification, access requirements, and retention requirements
- Coordinate with Privacy and Information Security teams to ensure responsible and compliant data handling
- Develop and maintain data governance standards, procedures, controls, and checklists
- Coordinate governance approvals, adoption activities, and exception management
- Support data migration, platform implementation, and other technology projects by embedding data ownership, metadata, and quality requirements
- Coordinate data reconciliation and governance checks with project and delivery teams
- Prepare data governance dashboards, reports, council materials, and audit evidence
- Monitor stewardship activities, governance decisions, overdue actions, and adoption against established baselines
- Provide training and guidance to data stewards and business stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement of data governance and data quality processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Management, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in data governance, data quality, data management, or business/data analysis
- Working knowledge of data ownership, data stewardship, metadata, data lineage, and data quality
- Experience with Microsoft Purview, Databricks Unity Catalog, or similar data catalog/governance tools is preferred
- Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK concepts, master data, and reference data
- Understanding of privacy-aware data handling and data classification
- Experience working with healthcare or insurance data is an advantage
- Strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple governance activities
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
