Data Engineer

You know the pain. PDFs that don't copy-paste correctly. Websites that change structure without warning. Search endpoints that timeout half the time. Data that should be public but requires three FOI requests and a prayer.

We're building the legal data infrastructure the Philippines should have but doesn't. And we need someone who finds that mission exciting not just tolerable.

The role

You'll own the ingestion, cleaning, and structuring of legal data from government sources.

Day to day:

• Build scraping and ingestion pipelines (crawl clean structure index)
• Wrangle genuinely terrible data (PDFs, OCR errors, inconsistent formats, undocumented APIs)
• Make pipelines that don't break when sources change because they will
• Monitor, alert, backfill, retry reliability is the job
• Care deeply about data quality (if missing commas keep you up at night, good)

This is not maintenance work. You're building core infrastructure from scratch.

You might be a fit if:

• You have 2-4 years in data engineering, backend, or infra-adjacent roles
• You're a workhorse you ship, you iterate, you don't wait for permission
• You have high agency you figure things out, you don't get stuck
• You're a little OCD about data quality messy data personally offends you
• You think about failure modes before features
• You've worked with Python and SQL; bonus if you know Dagster or Airflow (but willing to reskill)
• You're excited about nation-building, not just a paycheck

This role is probably NOT for you if:

• You prefer well-documented APIs and clean data handoffs
• You want to maintain existing systems, not build new ones
• You need detailed specs before you can start

Compensation:
