Cost Accountant

Island Pacific Global Inc. provides administrative and operational support to Island Pacific Supermarket, which operates 22 retail supermarket locations across the United States. This role will support our meat processing facility and central kitchen operations, with a focus on accurate product costing, inventory valuation, production analysis, and financial reporting.

About the Role

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing and controlling manufacturing costs related to fresh meat processing, cutting and packing, and central kitchen operations. The role will provide accurate costing and financial insights that help improve operational efficiency, product profitability, and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and analyze cost accounting records for raw materials, direct labor, packaging, and manufacturing overhead.
• Prepare standard cost reports, production costing reports, variance analyses, and COGS reports.
• Analyze production yields, material usage, waste, and shrinkage to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitor and reconcile inventory movements across production, warehouse, and accounting systems.
• Perform product, category, and business segment profitability and margin analysis.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to manufacturing and operational costs.
• Support month-end and year-end closing, including inventory valuation and cost-related journal entries.
• Identify opportunities to improve inventory controls, cost tracking, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
• Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA license is an advantage but not required.

Experience & Skills

• 3–5 years of cost accounting experience in food manufacturing is required.
• Experience in meat processing, fresh meat cutting and packing, or similar food/protein processing operations is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, standard costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis, production costing, and COGS.
• Experience analyzing production yields, inventory movements, and manufacturing costs.
• Experience with ERP systems is preferred; Acumatica experience is a strong advantage.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
