Serving both commercial and residential clients across North America, the company combines engineering expertise with craftsmanship to deliver high-quality projects while continuing to scale its operations through improved systems and technology.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while supporting its continued growth. This role will play a critical part in strengthening financial processes, improving reporting accuracy, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax requirements.

A key responsibility will be leading the company's transition from QuickBooks Online to ERPNext's accounting module, working closely with the company's CPA to ensure a smooth migration and successful implementation. The ideal candidate is hands-on, process-oriented, and comfortable operating in a growing business where they can improve systems while providing meaningful financial insights to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and month-end close.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Maintain the integrity of the company's financial records and internal controls.
• Manage the company's accounting activities within QuickBooks Online while supporting the migration to ERPNext.
• Partner closely with the company's CPA throughout the ERPNext implementation and accounting transition.
• Ensure a successful migration of financial data, accounting processes, and reporting into ERPNext.
• Develop and improve accounting policies, financial procedures, and operational controls.
• Assist leadership with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
• Monitor company financial performance and provide actionable insights to support business decisions.
• Coordinate tax planning activities and work alongside external tax professionals to optimize tax strategies, including compliance with Utah-specific tax requirements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support annual tax preparation, audits, and other financial reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and financial operations through automation and system improvements.
• Collaborate with leadership to support strategic initiatives, operational growth, and long-term financial planning.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in accounting, corporate finance, or controllership roles.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience managing accounting operations in QuickBooks Online.
• Experience leading or participating in ERP implementations or accounting system migrations.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
• Experience working closely with external CPAs, auditors, and tax professionals.
• Knowledge of corporate tax planning and financial compliance.
• Familiarity with Utah business tax regulations or the ability to quickly learn state-specific tax requirements.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a growing business.
• Professional-level written and verbal English communication skills.

Bonus Experience

• Experience with ERPNext or similar ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, or Odoo.
• CPA designation or active progress toward CPA licensure.
• Experience working in construction, manufacturing, engineering, project-based, or specialty contracting businesses.
• Experience leading accounting process improvements and ERP implementations.
• Familiarity with job costing, project accounting, or inventory accounting.
• Experience with tax planning and multi-state tax compliance.
• Experience using ChatGPT, Claude, or similar AI tools to improve financial reporting, workflow automation, documentation, and operational efficiency.
