Backend Engineer (Java)

About the Role

The Backend Engineer (Java) is an individual contributor and is responsible for helping to drive the design, development, maintenance and improvement of SBC's IT Software applications and platforms. S/He is expected to use leading-edge development practices and to leverage on cutting-edge technologies.

How you'll contribute

• Supports the translation of user requirements from SBC's business team into software requirements to ensure the applications adequately meet their needs
• Designs, develops, tests, debugs, maintains and improves IT business applications as a member of the engineering team.
• Performs advanced testing and debugging of complex software to support processes for software components including performance optimization; Contributes code within their direct team.
• Collaborates effectively within and across teams; Maintains and communicates guidelines on patterns and frameworks effectively.

What we're looking for

• At least 5–8 years of relevant experience
• Strong experience in Java and/or Python
• Solid background in Microservices Architecture
• Hands-on experience with Kafka / Confluent Kafka
• Experience working with databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Oracle
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and API development
