Accounts Payable Specialist

Client: An Australian privately owned construction company

Role: Accounts Payable

Schedule: 100% WFH

Responsibilities:

-Must have construction‑specific AP requirements and importantly, proven experience handling subcontractor claims, retentions, and compliances. We also need to make sure that the person has solid experience in vendor statements reconciliations and supporting of EOM payments /closing processes in busy vendor/subcontract environment.

-Strong experience in Process, code, and match supplier invoices and purchase orders in the accounting system (e.g., Xero, MYOB)

-Verify the accuracy of invoices, ensuring correct GST treatment and compliance with Australian Tax Office (ATO) requirements.

-Support month-end closing activities, including accruals and reporting.

Qualifications:

*End‑to‑end processing of high‑volume invoices in Jonas up 1,500 a month (progress claim up to 500/month - manually and the reminder using SmartUi (ABBYY OCR system))

*Tying project invoices to specific jobs, cost codes, and subcontracts

*Verifying invoices due dates and matching against purchase orders and progress claims against subcontracts

*Managing progress billing, retainage, and supporting compliance requirements

*Ensuring accurate coding and GST treatment in line with company policies

*Investigating and resolving vendor account discrepancies

*Managing supplier queries with clear, professional communication

*Reconciling vendor statements

*Prepare accurate, complete and timely month‑end close

*Experience in construction company with subcontractor claims – must

*Experience with ABBYY system is preferable.

* Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (preferred).

* 2+ years experience in an Accounts Payable or similar finance role.

* Strong understanding of Australian GST and basic accounting principles.

* Experience using ERP systems (e.g., MYOB, Xero).

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.

* Preferably with previous construction experience and preferable in AU construction companies

* Preferably with experience Jonas Premier – Accounting Software
