About the RoleWe're hiring an
Accounting Specialist with solid experience in construction accounting to support our centralized finance operations. This is a remote position that will partner closely with project managers, property managers, and third-party vendors to ensure accurate project cost accounting, timely vendor payments, and clear financial reporting.
What You'll Do
- Process and code construction-related vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and change orders in the general ledger
- Reconcile job cost and project accounting sub-ledgers to the general ledger on a regular cadence
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and project closeouts
- Coordinate with Project Mfanagers to obtain documentation for invoices, lien waivers, and certified payroll as needed
- Maintain and monitor construction budgets, track commitments, and report variances
- Support month-end close activities and assist with preparing project-level and consolidated reports
- Assist with accounts payable functions, vendor setup, and 1099 preparation related to construction vendors
- Help improve and document accounting processes, internal controls, and systems related to job cost tracking
What You Bring
- 3+ years of accounting experience with demonstrable work in construction or project-based accounting
- Proficiency with job cost accounting concepts: WIP, retainage, commitments, change orders, and project closeouts
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 100/300, Viewpoint) and strong spreadsheet skills
- Comfortable working remotely with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
- High attention to detail, excellent organization, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to analyze variances, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience preferred; CPA or pursuit of certification is a plus
