Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Accountant to own and oversee end-to-end accounting for US-based clients. This role goes beyond execution — you will act as the technical owner, ensuring accurate financials, compliance with US GAAP, and smooth month-end close, while also mentoring junior accountants and serving as a key point of contact for clients.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Ownership
- Own full-cycle accounting for assigned US clients (GL, AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations)
- Lead and manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments prepared by junior staff
- Ensure accuracy of balance sheet and P&L accounts
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP
- Apply and review revenue recognition under ASC 606
- Oversee lease accounting under ASC 842 (if applicable)
- Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules
- Support audits and tax engagements with required schedules and documentation
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary accounting point of contact for clients
- Explain financial results to founders, CFOs, and business leaders
- Identify risks, issues, and improvement opportunities proactively
- Partner with tax advisors, auditors, and internal stakeholders
Team Leadership & Process Improvement
- Mentor and review work of junior accountants
- Define and maintain SOPs and accounting workflows
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives
- Ensure quality control and adherence to timelines
Systems & Tools
- Work with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or Sage
- Support system implementations and migrations
- Improve reporting accuracy and efficiency through better system usage
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of accounting experience, including strong US GAAP exposure
- Proven experience independently owning month-end close
- Experience reviewing work of junior accountants
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting
- Proficiency with at least one major accounting system (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or Sage)
- Excellent written and spoken English communication
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA / CA / ACCA (or pursuing)
- Experience in SaaS, e-commerce, or professional services
- Prior experience in an accounting firm or outsourced accounting model
- Experience working remotely with US clients
- Exposure to ASC 606 and ASC 842
