Job Description

VP of Engineering

We're seeking an experienced VP of Engineering to lead our 15-20 person technical team and dramatically improve our software delivery velocity. We are seeking need a strong technical leader who can identify bottlenecks, streamline processes, and drive execution excellence.

This role will own product roadmap execution, technical architecture, backend development, frontend development, and quality assurance. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with proven leadership experience and has a track record of accelerating delivery in growing engineering organizations.

Responsibilities

-Engineering Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and mentor the 15-20 person engineering team, including backend, frontend, and QA engineers
  • Diagnose and eliminate bottlenecks causing current delivery delays, implementing immediate improvements
  • Establish clear delivery metrics, sprint cadences, and accountability frameworks to accelerate feature delivery
  • Build and scale engineering processes, tools, and best practices that enable faster, more reliable releases

-Product & Roadmap Management

  • Partner with leadership to define product vision and translate business objectives into technical roadmaps
  • Own and prioritize the engineering roadmap, balancing new features, technical debt, and infrastructure improvements
  • Coordinate across backend, frontend, and QA teams to ensure alignment and efficient delivery
  • Drive sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives to maintain development momentum

-Technical Architecture & Strategy

  • Own the overall technical architecture and make key decisions on system design and technology choices
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability of our Java Spring Boot backend and Angular frontend
  • Guide the evolution of our AWS infrastructure and MySQL database architecture
  • Balance technical excellence with speed to market, making pragmatic decisions about technical debt

-Team Development & Culture

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent across all technical disciplines
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Implement code review practices, testing standards, and quality gates that don't slow down delivery
  • Create clear career paths and provide mentorship opportunities for team members

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3-5 years in engineering leadership roles
  • Proven track record of improving delivery velocity and eliminating engineering bottlenecks
  • Experience managing and scaling engineering teams of 15-50 people
  • Strong hands-on technical background with modern web application architectures
  • Experience with Java/Spring Boot backend development and modern frontend frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue)
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments with rapid iteration cycles

Required Skills

  • Experience scaling engineering teams from 10-50+ people
  • Background in process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar)
  • Experience with MySQL database optimization and scalability
  • Track record of successfully implementing engineering metrics and KPIs
  • Previous experience in similar-stage companies or high-growth environments
