TIG / GTAW WELDER — Precision & Thin
Metal (Automotive)
Role Summary
A TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc) Welder in the
automotive industry operates precision welding equipment to fuse thin and
high-grade metals — including stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel alloys —
using a non‑consumable tungsten electrode. You will produce clean, distortion‑free,
high‑strength welds that meet exacting automotive standards, working from
blueprints and specifications.

automotive industry operates precision welding equipment to fuse thin and
high-grade metals — including stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel alloys —
using a non‑consumable tungsten electrode. You will produce clean, distortion‑free,
high‑strength welds that meet exacting automotive standards, working from
blueprints and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment & Preparation
- Set up, calibrate, and adjust TIG welding machines; regulate shielding gas flow (argon/helium) and prepare tungsten electrodes.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to determine dimensions, joint design, and proper welding sequence.
- Clean and prepare metal surfaces, removing scale, rust, or contaminants before welding.
- Perform high‑quality TIG welds on thin-gauge materials (1.5mm and below) and specialty alloys with precise heat control.
- Maintain stable arcs and carefully feed filler material to produce smooth, spatter‑free welds without warping or burn‑through.
- Visually and dimensionally inspect completed welds to ensure structural soundness, proper penetration, and compliance with specifications.
- Identify defects, rework as needed, and ensure every weld meets automotive quality standards.
- Maintain welding equipment, torches, hoses, and accessories; perform routine cleaning and report worn or faulty parts.
- Keep work area clear of hazards; wear full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety protocols at all times.
Education & Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent, formal technical training, trade school, or welding apprenticeship completed.
- NCII certification in Welding required; AWS or other automotive/industrial certifications are an advantage.
- Superior hand‑eye coordination, steady hands, and fine manual dexterity for precise filler‑rod feeding and heat control.
- Working knowledge of different metals (stainless steel, aluminum, alloys), their properties, thicknesses and heat‑sensitivity.
- Proven experience welding thin materials without distortion or burn‑through.
