Job Description:

Summary
The Mechanical Technician / Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and CNC machining equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair precision mechanical components. This role supports engineering, production, and maintenance teams by ensuring parts meet design specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machines (lathe, mill, drill press, grinder, etc.)
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Machine parts to tight tolerances using appropriate tooling and fixtures
  • Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and boring
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs)
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and tooling
  • Assist with prototyping, custom fabrication, and repair work
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and maintenance records
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to improve manufacturability and processes

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Technology or a related field
  • Proven experience as a machinist or mechanical technician
  • Proficiency with manual and/or CNC machining equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, materials, and tolerances
  • Experience using precision measurement tools
  • Basic computer skills (CNC controls, ERP/MES systems a plus)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNC programming experience (G-code, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, or mechanical assemblies
  • Apprenticeship or certification in machining or manufacturing technology
