The Technical Designer ensures that creative concepts are translated into precise, production-ready garments. This role bridges design, production, and merchandising, providing the technical expertise needed to execute collections with accuracy, quality, efficiency, and marketability. The Technical Designer is responsible for creating detailed specifications, maintaining design integrity, and supporting smooth handover from concept to final product.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Tech Pack Development and Send Out
- Prepares all Tech Packs with complete and accurate information, construction details, materials, trims, sundries, and hangtag specificatons ready for send out to all vendors
- Sends out all Tech Packs, which have been discussed with vendor, in a timely manner
- Reviews the Tech Packs to ensure that all comments from the fit session have been accurately logged
- Updates the Tech Packs with the Q Sample Inspection Report
Technical Translation
- Assists the Creative Designer in updating the Technical Flats after fit sessions to reflect the updated details of each style, as needed
Pattern, Sampling, and Fit Collaboration
- Partner with vendors/patternmakers to ensure garments maintain design integrity while being manufacturable at scale
- Ensures that all fitting comments and constructions issues are recorded in the Tech Packs and communicated to vendors to address fit and construction issues during proto and sample development in coordination with the Product Development Coordinator
Construction, Quality, Measurement Spec and Care Label Approvals
- Approve stitching, finishing, and trim applications, ensuring all technical aspects meet brand quality and longevity standards and manufacturability
- Approve sample and graded measurement specifications and acceptable tolerance for each approved style
- Approve the care labels to be attached for each garment, ensuring that the complete and accurate fabric and care instructions per style
Q Sample Inspection and Report
- Inspects and measures all Q Samples to ensure that any quality and measurement issues are addressed before bulk production
- Prepares the Q-Sample Inspection report that is submitted and discussed with the vendor before bulk production
- Shares the Q Sample Inspection Report with the Production team and Country Warehouse teams to facilitate the AQL inspection of bulk production
SKU Checklist
- Ensures that each style has been checked against the Production and Merchandising Checklists before approval
Fabric Consumption Computations
- Assess feasibility of dye-to-match (DTM) fabrics by reviewing style assortment versus fabric minimum order requirements, ensuring cost efficiency and material optimization
Library Management
- Maintain and update a specification library, integrating learnings from production feedback to continuously improve standards.
Cross-Functional Support
- Provide technical expertise to design, merchandising, and production teams for alignment across product development stages to ensure design intent is achieved
