Qualifications

  • Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy
  • Must be a Certified Public Accountant
  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience with the big 4 accounting firms, or other firms

offering tax services

  • With experience in handling tax compliance review, tax assessments and/or tax advisory services.
  • Strong understanding of relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred Skills

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • REVIEW OF RETURNS AND MONITORING OF STATUTORY COMPLIANCE

Responsible for the monthly/quarterly/annual review of returns and computation of

taxes due; and monitoring of BUs statutory compliance with BIR requirements

1.1 Review draft monthly/quarterly/annual returns, computation, supporting

schedules & other documents.

1.2 Coordinate inquiries, confirmation and/or proposed adjustments with BUs/process

owners.

1.3 Settle issues raised with BUs/process owners. Sign-off/finalize before filing and

payment

1.4 Obtain copies of filed returns, reference and payment reference, as well as e-

validation/eSubmission of attachments. Update monitoring of compliance.

1.5 Prepare quarterly report on review of tax returns, which contains monthly review

findings, recurring errors or issues that should be raised to the management

  • TAX COMPLIANCE REVIEW

Responsible for the review, evaluation and monitoring of the compliance of BUs with the

existing tax rules and regulations, identify possible tax exposures and recommend action

plans to mitigate the risks

2.1 Prepare tax briefing: customized review program and testing procedures based on

SBU's industry. Identify taxable year, industry issues and focus areas. Discuss with

SBU objective of the review, documents and information request list (DIRL), and

timeline.

2.2 Conduct audit procedures: accomplish work program, data gathering, evaluation of

relevant tax practices, examination of records, sampling techniques.

2.3 Draft audit report with supporting working papers. Identify the risk level, quantified

amount, propose corrective measures or alternatives to minimize the risk and

controls to be employed to minimize or eliminate the risk moving forward.

2.4 Discuss tax co review report with BUs. Agree action plans and finalize report.

2.5 Monitor compliance or implementation of actions plans.

  • BIR AUDIT OR ASSESSMENT

Assistance in case of BIR audit or assessment.

3.1 Assist in preparation and review of required documents prior to submission to BIR.

3.2 Meetings/discussion with BUs. Gather data and documents, prepare table

assessment.

3.3 Evaluate and analyze BIR findings and other issues raised, if any.

3.4 Assist BUs in reconciling discrepancies, research and/or prepare possible defenses,

prepare BIR letters and correspondences. Determine amount of actual exposure

based on reconciliations, representations and defenses.

3.5 Meetings/discussion with BIR officers/examiners until final resolution of the case.

3.6 Assist in preparation of returns and payment of deficiency taxes, if any.

  • LOCAL TAXES COMPLIANCE AND MONITORING

Assist in the computation, payment and monitoring of local taxes.

4.1 Collate and summarize the gross receipts for the preceding year

4.2 Assist in preparation of documents required for renewal and retirement of business

permit, and payment of required local taxes.

4.3 Update local tax compliance monitoring

  • INTERNAL TAX ADVISORY AND SUPPORT SERVICES

Provide tax advisory services and support to business units

5.1 Performs initial assessment of inquiry or requests

5.2 Prepares deliverables, depending on requirement and complexity of issues

  • PROCESS IMPROVEMENTS

Initiate project/s to simplify or optimize a process, reduce errors and/or improve tax

compliance

6.1 Review the current practices and process of BUs with issues noted during tax

compliance review or consultation; or any process which can be simplified or

improved

6.2 Suggest feasible and cost-efficient alternatives / redesign the process or automate,

to simplify or optimize a process, reduce errors and/or improve tax compliance

6.3 Prepare report and discuss proposal with Manager. Secure necessary approvals.

6.4 Initiate the project and change management. Implement process improvement

and test the change.

6.5 Cascade the process improvement to BUs concerned. Monitor compliance and

challenges encountered.

6.6 Finalize documentation on process improvement.
