System Monitoring Engineer

Responsibilities:

The System Engineer Monitoring is in general responsible for the accomplishment of following tasks:

• Setup standard monitoring on existing and new systems using SNMP, WMI or ad-hoc protocols
• Execute daily/weekly/monthly Monitoring tasks and requests
• Design monitoring processes using standard methods and checks (SNMP and WMI checks, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, TCP port checks)
• Design and support ad-hoc monitoring solution using scripting (Linux shell, Perl, PowerShell)
• Design and support ad-hoc monitoring solution for databases (SQL Query)
• Characterize existing application and create related monitoring checks
• Quality control and continuous review of system in place
• Promoting of automation processes using process mapping to analyze and evaluate suitable areas
• Management / support / troubleshooting of Solarwinds monitoring, Dynatrace and Ayehu NG automation
• Review of logs to highlight mismatches / errors / problems
• Plan upgrades and update monitoring software and servers
• Documentation of procedures, reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Teamwork and collaboration with other technical and non-technical teams
• Knowledge and experience with any monitoring product
• Knowledge in SolarWinds monitoring tools is appreciated
• Knowledge in Dynatrace and Ayehu NG is a plus
• Administration of Windows Server and / or Red Hat Linux
• Advanced networking skills (IP addressing, routing, switching)
• Scripting experience with common programming languages (Linux shell, Perl, PowerShell)
• Understanding of common protocols like SNMP, WMI, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, TCP handshake
• Understanding of web technologies like Apache, tomcat and IIS
• Understanding common network protocols (TCP/IP, Routing OSPF, BGP)
• Knowledge of java basics is welcome
• Knowledge of ITIL and a product like ServiceNow is welcome
• Service and customer oriented
• Autonomous, flexible with working hours
• Excellent English and written communications skills

Education & Experience

• Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or equivalent
• At least 6 years working experience as system or network engineer or 3 years experience on monitoring

The selected candidate may be subject to the provision of an up-to-date (not older than 3 months) criminal record certificate.
