The Survey Technician is responsible in supporting the quality control and preparation of field survey data by validating inputs, correcting inconsistencies, and ensuring compliance with surveying standards. The role enables accurate drafting outputs and timely delivery of survey-related work.
Job Description
Imports field survey data into base drawing files for drafting and downstream use.
Creates and updates AutoCAD base drawings, calculations, and annotations required for survey projects.
Reviews survey data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with jurisdictional, client, and RPLS standards.
Performs quality control checks on completed and prior survey work and documents findings.
Identifies errors, investigates root causes, and implements corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Maintains project notes, updates, and status changes in tracking systems (e.g., MAS).
Records quality metrics, observations, and recommended improvements.
Identifies complex data or workflow issues and evaluates solutions.
Stays current on surveying standards, tools, and technological advancements.
Follows departmental procedures and federal, state, and local regulations.
Performs other assigned tasks to support surveying and drafting operations.
Required Qualifications
Experience using AutoCAD or similar drafting tools for file preparation and revisions.
Understands basic surveying standards, practices, and terminology.
Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy in data validation.
Applies problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data or workflow issues.
Manages time well and handles multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Acts with professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
Clear and coherent both written and verbal communication skills in English effectively with drafting and survey teams.
Screening Criteria
High school diploma or GED required.
At least six (6) months of relevant work experience in surveying, drafting, data entry, or related technical work.
Must have stable employment history.
