The Fruit & Vegetable Supervisor oversees daily operations of the fresh produce section, including receiving, merchandising, staff supervision, and compliance with food safety standards. They ensure fruits and vegetables are fresh, properly displayed, and available to customers, while minimizing waste and maximizing sales.
Key Responsibilities
Product Handling & Quality Control
- Supervise receiving, sorting, and stocking of fruits and vegetables.
- Ensure freshness, proper rotation (FIFO), and removal of damaged or expired items.
- Monitor storage conditions to maintain product quality.
Inventory & Ordering
- Manage stock levels and coordinate with suppliers for replenishment.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and manage shrinkage/loss prevention.
- Forecast demand based on seasonality and promotions.
Merchandising & Sales
- Oversee product display, signage, and promotional setups in the produce section.
- Ensure shelves are well-stocked, organized, and aligned with planograms.
- Track sales performance and adjust ordering or display strategies accordingly.
Team Supervision
- Train and supervise produce staff on handling techniques, hygiene, and customer service.
- Schedule shifts, assign tasks, and evaluate performance.
Customer Service
- Ensure staff provide excellent service, assisting customers with product inquiries.
- Handle escalated customer concerns related to fruits and vegetables.
Compliance & Safety
- Enforce food safety standards, hygiene practices, and audit requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of produce storage and display areas.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Food Technology, Business, or Retail Management (preferred).
- Experience: 35 years in fresh produce or food retail operations, with supervisory experience.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of produce handling, cold-chain management, and inventory systems.
- Soft Skills: Leadership, communication, problem-solving, and customer service orientation.
