Subject Matter Expert (SME) – ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies (Grades 3–12)

Position Overview

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will design and develop engaging, standards-aligned instructional materials across English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies for Grades 3–12. This role requires deep subject knowledge, curriculum development expertise, and the ability to create age-appropriate, inquiry-driven lessons aligned with U.S. curriculum standards (e.g., Common Core, NGSS, state standards). SMEs will ensure content fosters literacy, numeracy, scientific inquiry, and civic understanding while leveraging digital tools for delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Develop curriculum-aligned content in ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies appropriate to grade-level requirements (Grades 3–5, 6–8, 9–12).
  • Ensure coverage of foundational and advanced concepts tailored to each grade band.
  • Stay updated on educational trends and best practices.

Instructional Design & Development

  • Create detailed lesson plans aligned to standards and learning objectives.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments.
  • Design supplementary materials (reading guides, practice problems, inquiry tasks, visuals, multimedia).
  • Incorporate real-world applications and age-appropriate instructional strategies.

Collaboration & Feedback

  • Work with curriculum developers, instructional designers, and stakeholders.
  • Incorporate feedback from peer reviews and pilot testing.
  • Participate in virtual collaboration sessions to share progress and insights.

AI-Enabled Workflow

  • Use AI tools for drafting, review, assessment creation, and media development.
  • Validate outputs for accuracy, standards alignment, and age appropriateness.
  • Be open to working on digital authoring platforms such as Articulate Rise (training provided).

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or relevant subject area (English, Math, Science, Social Studies).
  • Proven experience teaching or developing curriculum for U.S. elementary, middle, or high school levels.
  • Strong knowledge of subject-specific pedagogy and standards.
  • Comfort with AI tools and digital platforms.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Education or relevant subject area.
  • Experience with digital/blended learning environments.
  • Familiarity with U.S. curriculum frameworks (Common Core, NGSS, state standards).
