Job Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the Inventory accounting function for a fleet of ships and various warehouse locations. Responsibilities include supporting monthly, quarterly, and yearly close processes and ensuring accurate reporting of inventory and reserve balances. This role assists with variance analysis, prepares required journal entries, accounts for voyage and warehouse activity, prepares account reconciliations, research significant variances, adheres to close deadlines, and communicates with operations to resolve issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Record inventory consumption and adjustments upon voyage completion.
- Record inventory activity for warehouses across the network.
- Prepare monthly close entries, including accruals, cleanup, and reclass journal entries.
- Support quarterly close processes, including split voyage accruals and variance explanations.
- Prepare reconciliations and perform detailed research on discrepancies.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and provide recommendations.
- Assist with reserve assessment file preparation.
- Meet all deadlines for close processes and reconciliation submissions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or another related field.
- At least three years experience in accounting.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong PC skills, including above average proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical abilities with the capacity to multi task in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Flexibility to support peak workload periods (e.g., monthly/quarterly close) and collaborate across time zones.
- Oracle experience preferred.
- Experience with CrunchTime and/or APEX systems preferred.
