Role Description

  • Ensures that all SMT manufacturing processes consistently meet quality, reliability, and customer requirements, from incoming materials through final inspection and shipment using documented procedures, work instructions, control plan, and visual-mechanical acceptance standards (customer's acceptance criteria and IPC-A-610 standard)
  • Establish, implement, and maintain quality standards and control plans for SMT processes
  • Monitor critical SMT processes such as solder paste printing, component placement, reflow soldering, and cleaning in terms of parameters (per part number process requirements) and visual inspection results and trends from QA inspector reports
  • Define and validate inspection criteria for SPI, AOI, X-ray, and functional or electrical testing – and monitor effectiveness of the inspection / testing methodology and equipment
  • Review inspection results and analyze trends for recurring defects (tombstoning, solder bridges, insufficient solder, etc.) for the purpose of corrective or improvement action formulation together with the cross-functional team
  • Ensure proper first article inspection (FAI) qualification process and line set-up approvals
  • Validate inspection programs and ensure correct interpretation of IPC-A-610 standard
  • Keeps updated on the IPC-A-610 standard and SMT customer visual acceptance standard
  • Lead root cause analysis, corrective action planning, 8D creation using tools such as Process Mapping, 5-Why, Fishbone, FTA, Pareto, and SPC
  • Process Owner and Leader: SPC, DOE, Control Plan, FMEA, perform CPK/Cp study on a quarterly basis and reporting to management and customer
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party audits
  • Work with suppliers on quality issues, corrective actions, and improvement plans
  • Participate in supplier audits and qualification when required
  • Key personnel in the qualification of new suppliers or materials for SMT
  • Provide quality guidance during NPI (New Product Introduction) builds
  • Support line stoppage decisions when quality risks are identified
  • Acts as the quality point-of-contact during production issues or customer complaints, customer inquiries on quality-related issues
  • Checks full functioning of control devices and compliance to ESD requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 2–5 years experience in SMT/PCB assembly quality engineering
  • Strong knowledge of SMT processes and defect mechanisms
  • In-depth understanding of IPC-A-610 standards and customer acceptance criteria
  • Experience in inspection systems (SPI, AOI, X-ray, functional testing)
  • Hands-on experience in root cause analysis and quality tools (8D, FMEA, SPC, DOE)
  • Experience in supplier quality management and audits
  • Knowledge of ESD control and manufacturing compliance standards
