About The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join our Finance and Payroll Team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services across the organisation. You will oversee end-to-end payroll processing, ensure adherence to legislative and industrial requirements, and act as a key point of escalation for payroll-related queries.

This position is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has strong technical payroll knowledge, and takes pride in maintaining high standards of accuracy and controls. You will work closely with HR, Finance, and operational managers to ensure seamless payroll operations, support audits, and contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll systems and processes.

As a senior member of the team, you will also play an important role in coaching others, strengthening internal controls, and supporting process enhancements that improve efficiency, compliance, and the employee payroll experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing (weekly/fortnightly) for Australia and New Zealand.
  • Validate timesheets, allowances, shift penalties, overtime, and leave in accordance with Awards, or EBAs.
  • Process new starters, terminations, redundancies, parental leave, and adjustments.
  • Calculate termination payments, including notice, redundancy, LSL, annual leave, and ETPs in line with ATO requirements.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy before final signoff and coordinate dual-approval as required.

Compliance


  • Ensure payroll complies with:
  • Fair Work Act 2009
  • National Employment Standards (NES)
  • Modern Awards & Enterprise Agreements
  • ATO tax, STP Phase 2, superannuation standards
  • Payroll Tax requirements
  • Maintain payroll records as required under legislation and audit standards.

Superannuation & Reporting


  • Process superannuation contributions through clearing houses.
  • Ensure SG compliance and correct categorisation of OTE.
  • Prepare payroll tax monthly/annual reconciliations.
  • Assist with FBT calculations related to payroll items.
  • Manage end-of-year processing, including Income Statements and STP finalisation.

Systems & Administration


  • Maintain employee data in the payroll system.
  • Support system upgrades, testing, and process automation.
  • Prepare payroll reports for Finance, HR, and auditors.

Stakeholder Support


  • Act as the primary escalation point for payroll queries (employees, managers, HR, Finance).
  • Provide guidance on Award interpretation, payroll policy, allowances, and entitlements.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies when required.

Continuous Improvement


  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies, root causes, and recurring issues.
  • Recommend process improvements to strengthen compliance and efficiency.
  • Update payroll procedures, manuals, and internal controls.

Skills & Qualifications:


  • 3–5+ years of end-to-end payroll experience in Australia.
  • Experience in a large or multi-site organisation.
  • Strong understanding of Fair Work, Awards/EAs, ATO, superannuation, and payroll tax.
  • Experience with LSL and complex payroll calculations.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data validation).
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Work Arrangement:


  • On-site, Clark Office
  • Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:00 am - 3:00 pm
