SUMMARY
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise and datacenter network infrastructure. This role serves as a senior technical resource and escalation point for complex network issues, supporting high-availability environments and ensuring network performance, reliability, and security.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with routing and switching, BGP, Juniper network technologies, and datacenter environments. Experience with network design, security appliances, network overlays, and automation is highly valued.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise and datacenter network infrastructure.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex network incidents and issues.
- Configure and manage routing and switching infrastructure across production environments.
- Deploy and maintain BGP sessions across WAN, public, and datacenter network environments.
- Configure and support Juniper EX/QFX switching and SRX security appliances.
- Provision network services, including servers, firewalls, GRE tunnels, and related connectivity.
- Investigate and troubleshoot network incidents while minimizing customer impact and service disruption.
- Work with internal teams, customers, network providers, transit providers, and cross-connect partners to resolve connectivity issues.
- Participate in network upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and infrastructure expansion.
- Support router, switch, uplink, and network resource upgrades.
- Assist with the deployment of new network locations and points of presence.
- Follow formal change management processes and participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) activities.
- Monitor network performance, availability, capacity, and utilization.
- Identify opportunities to improve network reliability, performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain network documentation, configurations, diagrams, and technical procedures.
- Support incident management and communicate with affected clients through resolution.
- Stay current with networking technologies, security practices, and industry best practices.
- Contribute to automation and operational improvements using scripting and network automation tools where applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience, preferably in enterprise, datacenter, telecommunications, or financial services environments.
- Strong technical expertise in routing and switching.
- Strong hands-on experience with Juniper networking technologies, particularly EX/QFX switches and SRX firewalls.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with BGP.
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting networks in large-scale datacenter and/or metro environments.
- Strong understanding of network security principles, firewall technologies, and secure network architecture.
- Experience supporting high-availability and business-critical network environments.
- Strong understanding of Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
- Experience troubleshooting complex network connectivity, routing, switching, and performance issues.
- Ability to work independently on complex technical issues and take ownership from investigation through resolution.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, customers, vendors, and service providers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on minimizing service disruption.
- Experience with formal change management and CAB processes.
- JNCIP or equivalent professional-level networking experience preferred.
- JNCIE or equivalent expert-level experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with the following is preferred:
- VXLAN/EVPN.
- Arista low-latency switching.
- Packet capture and network traffic analysis.
- DWDM and optical networking.
- Network automation.
- Python or other scripting languages.
- Experience supporting financial services, trading, or other low-latency datacenter environments is highly preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS
- JNCIP – Juniper Networks Certified Professional or equivalent experience — Preferred.
- JNCIE – Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert or equivalent experience — Highly Preferred.
- Additional networking certifications such as CCNP are advantageous.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
