Responsible for managing material flow, inventory control, planning, supplier forecasting, and issuing production material purchase orders to an assigned group of moderate to high complexity suppliers and contract manufacturers to meet production scheduled demand, while supporting corporate inventory and logistics cost targets.Maintain strong relationships both internally and externally. Works closely with internal stakeholders: Commodity Purchasing, Production Control, Quality, Logistics, and Finance.
Summary of PositionThe Senior Material Planner plays a key global role in overseeing and coordinating the flow of materials required not only for production demands but also for customer service requirements. This position is responsible for managing inventory levels, planning and forecasting material needs, and issuing production material purchase orders to a designated group of moderate to high complexity suppliers and contract manufacturers around the world. The Senior Material Planner ensures that materials are available to meet demand, while also supporting the organization's goals for inventory and logistics cost efficiency, across all global locations.
To achieve these objectives, the Senior Material Planner maintains strong working relationships both internally and externally. Internally, the role requires close collaboration with various departments, including Commodity Purchasing, Production Control, Quality, Logistics, and Finance. Externally, the planner manages and coordinates with suppliers and contract manufacturers globally to ensure timely material deliveries and to resolve supply chain issues for all facilities and service needs worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuously develops an efficient and effective production material supply plan for each part considering: latest master production schedule, plant/warehouse capacity, production efficiencies, supplier's material supply chain lead times, order requirements, supplier capacity bottlenecks, logistics risks and inventory cost.
Updates long term material forecasts and communicates with higher complexity suppliers.
Validates material schedule with supplier and internal stakeholders and obtains alignment.
Supports identifying departmental or companywide process improvement initiatives, and lead key projects.
Process production material purchase requisitions and orders.
Maintains accuracy of open orders and documentation to ensure timely deliveries, promise dates, quantities, and cost.
Proactively identifies, communicates, and addresses the risk of material obsolescence or excess, including leading engineering changes implementation material required dates.
Keeps constant communication with each supplier to assess concerns over short- and long-term material orders or forecasts.
Ability to identify supply risks with data, escalates supply risks quickly, understanding level risk by severity. Work with suppliers to resolve issues promptly.
Addresses day-to-day material flow issues and assesses tactical plans to avoid material disruptions.
Tracks status of supply shortages that may affect production and takes necessary actions with suppliers or internal stakeholders to address gaps satisfactorily. Communicates shortage status to manufacturing plant and leadership.
Identifies supply chain cost reduction and cash flow improvement opportunities, such as logistics, minimum order quantities, inventory cost reduction.
Identifies and tackles cost reduction and cash flow improvement opportunities.
Documents supplier material supply issues and provides feedback to supplier scorecards.
Enter accurate and timely shipment information in MRP.
Documents changes in supply parameters such as minimum order quantities, standard packs, order and logistics lead times, shipping requirements.
Assist in the RFQ process by providing feedback on supplier supply chain assumptions and exceptions during quoting process.
Enforce material supply requirement manual, addressing exceptions with escalation and approved deviations.

Skills and Attributes
Experience in materials management or purchasing in a manufacturing company.
Experience with MRP/ERP systems, reports, and data.
Ability to multi-task various projects and achieve timely results by effectively and efficiently prioritizing tasks and projects.
Ability to work on complex and time constraint scenarios.
Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint), experience automating/establishing relational databases within an ERP system or equivalent in collaboration with IT, as well a passion for reporting.
Flexibility to support Off hour requests as required to match manufacturing plant 2-shift operation or suppliers working hours in different time zones around the world.
Team player with ability to work with influencing and networking skills in cross functional teams.
