We are seeking a highly experienced Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Engineer to join our multidisciplinary design team. This role provides critical technical guidance on fire safety across a variety of building projects, ensuring compliance with local and international codes and standards. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with proactive collaboration and strategic oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive fire safety technical support to internal project teams.
- Attend meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders to provide fire safety guidance, recommendations, and information.
- Review architectural layouts and design documents for compliance with fire and life safety codes (e.g., NFPA, UAE Fire Code).
- Assess and provide feedback on design proposals, contractor submissions, product datasheets, and test/classification reports.
- Review, monitor, and challenge, where necessary, fire strategies or advice provided by external consultants.
- Prepare and distribute technical notes, memorandums, and presentations on critical fire safety issues affecting projects or the organization.
- Conduct research and provide oversight on fire safety implications of new materials, technologies, approaches, and regulatory updates.
- Carry out qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessments and present findings to stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
- Share fire safety knowledge and provide training or education to internal design teams.
- Generate fire safety strategy reports for building projects.
- Assist in updating and maintaining internal best practice guidance and documentation.
- Prepare proposals for design or research services related to fire safety.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date FLS project notes and records.
- Manage individual workload and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of fire safety guidance.
- Identify personal and team training needs, stay current with fire safety knowledge, and provide feedback to leadership.
Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or Engineering
- NFPA Certification required
- Minimum 10 years of experience in fire and life safety engineering
- Thorough understanding of NFPA 101, NFPA 5000, UAE Fire Code and relevant design standards such as NFPA 13, 14, 72, 92
- Chartered Engineer status affiliated with a relevant professional engineering institute
- Ability to proactively research and integrate new fire safety technologies, materials, and regulations
- Candidates must be willing to relocate to Dubai, UAE
