THE ROLE
As our first data engineering hire, you will build the data engineering practice from the ground up, establishing standards, frameworks, and capabilities that serve clients at all maturity stages. You will design and implement data infrastructure for clients ranging from those with no data platform to those integrating new capabilities, while working closely with our analytics team to ensure infrastructure directly supports business needs across multiple industries such as retail, restaurants, consumer goods, marketplaces, real estate, hospitality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Platform Architecture & Implementation
- Design and build end-to-end data platforms for clients starting from scratch, including cloud warehouses, orchestration, and monitoring
- Assess existing client data infrastructure and identify optimization opportunities: refactoring data models to reduce costs, improving pipeline performance, or integrating new data sources into existing workflows
- Own end-to-end delivery of data pipeline projects from requirement gathering through production deployment and handoff
- Establish data quality frameworks and monitoring solutions that ensure trusted, accurate data
Client Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Lead technical discovery sessions with client stakeholders to understand data landscape, pain points, and maturity level
- Design scalable technical solutions that address business requirements, define project phases and timelines, and make informed build-vs-buy recommendations
- Engage with client technical teams and CTOs on infrastructure decisions, data governance, and platform strategy
- Partner with the Analytics team to ensure technical infrastructure directly supports business analytics requirements and reporting workflows
Building Data Engineering Practice
- Define data engineering best practices, standards, and reusable frameworks that become the foundation of our consulting approach
- Hire and mentor mid-level and junior data engineers as the team grows, providing technical guidance and career development
- Plan and allocate team resources across client engagements, balancing project demands with individual growth opportunities
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years in data engineering with proven experience architecting data platforms from scratch
- Strong expertise across modern data stack: cloud warehouses (Snowflake/Databricks/BigQuery/Redshift), orchestration, transformation, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Demonstrated ability to work across technical maturity levels, from establishing foundational data infrastructure to extending and optimizing existing platforms
- Strong communication and presentation skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and present data platform proposals
- Experience in consulting or client-facing roles strongly preferred; ability to scope projects, manage expectations, and deliver autonomously
