Job description:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for strategic merchandise planning and product selection to drive sales, profitability, and healthy inventory levels. This role ensures that the right products are available in the right stores, at the right time, and at the right price. As the gatekeeper of profitability, the Senior Buyer plays a critical role in balancing consumer demand, inventory investment, and overall business performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
I. Buying & Merchandise Planning
Conducts inventory simulations to assess stock levels, sell-through, and overall inventory health.
Prepares Open-to-Buy (OTB) simulations and sales forecasts to support buying decisions.
Selects and plans product assortments based on campaigns, market trends, sales forecasts, and consumer demand.
Anticipates demand driven by seasonality and promotional activities.
Identifies, evaluates, and collaborates with suitable suppliers and partners.
Prepares and maintains product catalogs for institutional or bulk selling initiatives.
II. Performance Analysis & Optimization
Monitors sales per SKU and overall sales performance versus inventory.
Analyzes consumer buying behavior and regularly reviews key performance indicators to identify growth opportunities and risks.
Develops and executes strategies to achieve sales targets while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
Conducts market and consumer research to identify emerging trends and shifts in demand.
Reviews promotional mechanics and resolves pricing discrepancies when necessary.
Ensures profitability targets are met, including those under promotion.
III. Market & Store Upkeep
Implements markdown and discount strategies while safeguarding overall gross margin targets.
Conducts regular store visits, engages with customers, and collaborates with frontline teams to gain market insights.
Keeps up-to-date with competitor activity, pricing, and evolving customer preferences.
Qualifications
College graduate; preferably with a degree in Management, Business, or a related field.
At least 23 years of relevant experience in buying, merchandising, or a related retail role.
Strong inductive reasoning skills with the ability to identify patterns and trends from data.
Demonstrates both critical and creative thinking in problem solving and decision-making.
In-depth understanding of the lifestyle, preferences, and activities of target consumers.
Highly proficient in Excel and data analysis.
Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Able to work collaboratively with internal teams and external suppliers.
