The Sales Trainer is an individual contributor role responsible for elevating the selling capability and conversion performance of the outbound sales team. This role focuses on designing and delivering sales training programs, coaching representatives to improve their selling techniques, and using performance data to ensure training interventions directly translate into higher conversion rates and revenue.

The ideal candidate brings proven experience in creating and running sales training programs in a high-value outbound sales environment, with a track record of measurably improving team sales performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training Program Design & Delivery

  • Design, develop, and deliver structured onboarding programs for new sales hires, ensuring they reach productive output faster.
  • Create and maintain training materials including call scripts, objection-handling guides, product knowledge resources, and selling frameworks.
  • Conduct regular upskilling sessions and refresher training to keep all representatives current on products, pricing, promotions, and selling techniques.
  • Facilitate role-plays, mock calls, and scenario-based exercises to sharpen consultative selling skills and close rates.
  • Develop and run specialised programs to build subject matter experts (SMEs) within the sales team.

Sales Coaching & Performance Improvement

  • Listen to live and recorded outbound sales calls to assess selling technique, pitch delivery, objection handling, and closing effectiveness.
  • Provide regular one-on-one and small group coaching sessions, delivering targeted feedback tied to specific call behaviours.
  • Identify underperforming representatives and develop individualised improvement plans with clear milestones, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Work with high-performing representatives to document best practices and replicate successful selling behaviours across the team.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Analyst to align coaching priorities with QA findings and compliance requirements.

Performance Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyse sales performance data — particularly conversion rates, revenue per representative, and average deal value — to identify trends, gaps, and training opportunities.
  • Produce regular training impact reports showing the correlation between training interventions and conversion rate movement.
  • Track and measure new hire ramp-up time against historical benchmarks, continuously refining the onboarding program to accelerate productivity.
  • Report training outcomes and recommendations to the Sales Director on a regular cadence.

Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate and improve existing training materials and programs based on performance data and trainee feedback.
  • Stay current on industry best practices in sales training, adult learning methodologies, and outbound sales techniques.
  • Recommend and support the implementation of tools and systems (e.g., LMS) to enhance training delivery and tracking.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Director and operations leadership to align training priorities with business objectives.

Qualification

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a sales training or sales coaching role within a high-order-value outbound sales environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering structured sales training programs from the ground up.
  • Strong understanding of outbound sales methodologies, consultative selling, and objection-handling techniques.
  • Experience listening to sales calls and providing performance-based coaching that drives measurable results.
  • Proficiency in analysing sales performance data (conversion rates, revenue, deal value) and translating findings into actionable training content.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, call recording platforms, and standard office productivity tools.
  • Willingness to work AU-aligned shifts.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in the energy, solar, battery storage, or home improvement industry.
  • Background supporting Australian or international sales teams.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
