Job Description

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reporting cost data for manufacturing operations and construction projects. This role works closely with operations, purchasing, project management, and accounting to ensure accurate cost tracking, variance analysis, and budgeting.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain standard cost models for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Track and analyze production costs, project costs, and job costing variances.
  • Prepare cost estimates for new projects and assist with project budgets.
  • Review inventory valuations, monitor stock adjustments, and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Conduct margin and profitability analysis at the product, department, and project level.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end close with cost-related journal entries.
  • Provide cost analysis reports to management for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with project managers, plant managers, and purchasing to control expenses.
  • Support internal audits, process improvement, and ERP/reporting system enhancements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing or construction.
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting/ERP systems (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar).
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with both office and shop teams.

Requirements:

  • Experience in architectural woodwork, millwork, or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of construction financials, work-in-progress reporting, and project budgeting.
  • Familiarity with ERP integrations for job costing and manufacturing operations.
