Job Description

  • Job Summary:

To provide on-site inspection and technical oversight of tunnel construction activities on behalf of the Owner's Engineer (OE), ensuring that works are performed in accordance with approved design documents, project specifications, quality standards, safety regulations, and contractual obligations. The Project Inspector (Tunnels) plays a key role in verifying construction quality, documenting progress, identifying non-conformances, and supporting the OE team in delivering a safe, compliant, and high-quality tunnel infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular on-site inspections of tunnelling works
  • To verify compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and quality standard
  • Use checklists and quality plans to guide inspections and identify deviations early
  • Track and document the progress of tunnelling activities against the construction schedule
  • Maintain daily site diaries, photograph key milestones, and prepare detailed progress reports for submission to the OE and client teams
  • Engage regularly with contractors, consultants, and other project team members to exchange technical information. Clarify site issues and coordinate activities to prevent delays or conflicts
  • Participate in site meetings and coordination reviews
  • Support the OE team in reviewing and providing comments on contractor-submitted method statements, ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans), materials approvals, and technical documents to ensure feasibility, safety, and compliance with the design intents

Qualifications

  • Experience in tunnel construction activities (e.g., excavation, support systems, waterproofing), ensuring compliance with design and safety standards
  • Experience in the conduct of inspections of infrastructure projects, identified non-conformances, and contributed to quality assurance processes
  • Experience in working or collaborating with contractors or engineers to resolve technical or quality-related issues in a practical, timely manner
  • Experience in the inspection of underground structures including initial and final lining of tunnels, support of excavation and structural permanent works for underground facilities
  • Knowledge and experience in ground behaviour and geotechnical monitoring related to tunnels
  • Experience in specialized tunnelling techniques
  • Knowledge in local and international tunnelling codes and standards
