What You'll Do
As Operations Manager Poultry Processing, you will play a central role in orchestrating the daily operations of multiple poultry processing facilities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with cross-functional teamsfrom quality assurance to human resourcesto ensure every aspect of production runs smoothly.
- Develop and implement strategic operating plans for basic poultry processing, further processing, and ready-to-eat lines that align with both short- and long-term business objectives.
- Translate these plans into actionable objectives with detailed activities, programmes, and schedules designed to meet production targets efficiently.
- Monitor plant performance by evaluating key metrics such as saleable yield, recovery rates, defects, by-product utilisation, and compliance with inventory systems like FIFO for traceability.
- Control expenses within budgetary limits by instituting cost-effective measures and conducting monthly reviews to assess results against financial plans.
- Coordinate closely with quality assurance teams to ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and other food safety protocols.
- Lead people management initiatives including workforce planning, coaching, training needs assessment, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and facilitating opportunities for staff advancement.
- Foster a customer-focused approach by implementing systems to gather feedback, address complaints promptly, and adapt processes to evolving client requirements.
- Oversee compliance with all regulatory permits related to health, safety, security, environmental managementincluding pollution control programmes that meet or exceed government standards.
- Safeguard company assets by monitoring inventories of supplies and finished products while ensuring proper transfer procedures between departments.
- Participate in special projects or technical studies as assigned by senior management to support ongoing organisational goals.
What You Bring
To excel as Operations Manager Poultry Processing you will bring substantial hands-on experience managing complex manufacturing environmentsideally within the food industrywhere you have overseen end-to-end production processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or any four-year business course is required; advanced qualifications are advantageous.
- At least 10 years supervisory or managerial experience within a food processing plant or similar manufacturing environment is essential.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale operations across multiple sites while maintaining focus on both detail-oriented tasks and big-picture strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing GMPs, HACCP protocols, SSOPs, solid waste management practices, wastewater treatment processes, and rendering plant operations.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with colleagues at all levels as well as external partners such as suppliers or regulatory bodies.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities suitable for preparing reports, presenting information clearly in meetings or training sessions, and corresponding professionally with clients or stakeholders.
- Computer literacy with proficiency in standard office applications such as Word, Excel (or spreadsheets), PowerPoint; familiarity with Lotus applications is beneficial.
- High ethical standards demonstrated through honesty, fairness in decision-making processes, respect for others perspectives; unwavering commitment to organisational values.
- Sound mathematical acumen including the ability to calculate discounts/interest/proportions/percentages/volumes as well as interpret financial ratios relevant to operational performance.
- Valid professional driver's licence coupled with willingness to travel between sites as needed.
