About the Opportunity
An established organization is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Payroll Accountant to support payroll accounting and financial reporting activities. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate payroll-related financial records, completing account reconciliations, supporting period-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls. The role also partners with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to help maintain accurate financial reporting and improve existing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete recurring reconciliations for payroll-related balance sheet accounts within established reporting timelines.
- Review payroll transactions and analyze account movements, identifying and explaining significant variances between reporting periods.
- Research and resolve reconciliation differences by working with Payroll, HR, and Finance stakeholders.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and other accounting adjustments.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing activities.
- Maintain organized reconciliation files and supporting documents for audit and compliance purposes.
- Carry out assigned internal control procedures and retain appropriate supporting documentation.
- Verify that payroll transactions are properly classified and recorded within the organization's financial system.
- Provide schedules, reports, and supporting information during internal and external audit engagements.
- Collaborate with payroll operations to understand payroll processing timelines and accounting impacts.
- Recommend improvements that help streamline reconciliation activities and strengthen reporting accuracy.
- Participate in finance system enhancements, testing activities, and process documentation when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience in payroll accounting, general accounting, financial reconciliations, or similar accounting functions.
- Background in a shared services, multinational, or corporate finance environment is an advantage.
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP, financial controls, and compliance practices.
- Hands-on experience using ERP platforms, with exposure to Workday Financials or Workday Payroll considered highly beneficial.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for financial analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with local and international teams.
- Previous involvement in audit support or compliance-related activities is a plus.
