Job Description

Job Overview

A growing organization is looking for a Senior Payroll Accountant to join its finance team. This role is responsible for payroll accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting support, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. The successful candidate will work closely with Payroll, Finance, and HR teams to maintain accurate payroll records, support financial close activities, and contribute to process improvements in a shared services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly payroll balance sheet reconciliations and ensure timely completion within reporting deadlines.
  • Analyze payroll-related accounts, investigate variances, and provide clear explanations for significant changes.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals, and accounting adjustments in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close activities.
  • Coordinate with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to resolve payroll-related accounting issues and reconciliation items.
  • Maintain complete reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Execute and document internal control activities to support regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure payroll transactions are accurately recorded and mapped within the organization's ERP system.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
  • Review payroll processes and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Support payroll accounting system updates, enhancements, and user testing when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in payroll accounting, general ledger accounting, or balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience working in a shared services or multinational environment is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, payroll accounting principles, and internal controls.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Workday Financials and/or Workday Payroll.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reconciliation, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet reporting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience collaborating across global teams.
  • Previous experience supporting audits or compliance reviews is an advantage.
