The Coding Educator is responsible for administering medical coding training modules according to approved Conifer curricula. They are also responsible for ensuring that trainees are able to successfully apply their learning in an operations environment, audit the work of newly trained employees, and respond to coding questions escalated by the coding operations team. They are expected to abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA.

The following responsibilities and duties [45%]:
- Training: Administers Conifer-approved medical coding training modules as part of the Conifer Coding
- University.
- COC, CPC, specialty coding classes
- Regular monthly and quarterly education to operations coding teams
- Ad hoc education based on results of individual and team audits
- Quality Audits: Performs quality checking (concurrent and retrospective) of live coding output of trainees after
- they graduate from training programs. Quality audits include documentation of coding errors/issues and
- application of agreed scoring system to assess accuracy of applied codes.
- Coding Queries: Responds to coding queries escalated by coding operations team to facilitate quality output.
- Target is to respond within 1 business day.
- Goal: Average training pass rate of =>90% pass rate per batch. (The pass rate is the number of trainees who
- passed training divided by the number of overall trainees. This is a measure of the Coding Educator's success
- as a trainer.)
- Does not meet =<90% pass rate
- Meets => 90% pass rate
- Exceeds =>90% pass rate
- Auditing Productivity: Meets and/or exceeds Conifer's auditing productivity benchmarks (charts per hour). [40%]
- Professional Development: Stays current with AHA Official Coding and Reporting Guidelines, CMS, and other
- agency directives for ICD-10-CM and CPT coding. Attends mandatory coding seminars on an annual basis
- (OPPS, ICD-10-CM and CPT updates) for inpatient and outpatient coding. Quarterly review of AHA Coding
- Clinic. Attends Quarterly Coding Updates and all coding conference calls. [10%]
- Communicates and resolves training and auditing issues (red flag for training outliers, audit quality outliers) for
- appropriate follow-up and resolution [5%]
- Other duties as assigned
Required Certifications/Licensure:
- Coder Certification from AHIMA or AAPC such as CCS, CIC, CPC
Working Conditions:
- Amenable to work onsite in BGC
- Willing to work in a dayshift schedule
